GP2 Summary
The idea behind GP2 was to create a series whose sole aim was to help drivers get into Formula 1. There is no doubting the success of GP2: the first champions from the series Nico Rosberg (2005) and Lewis Hamilton (2006) have taken Formula 1 by storm, and more success stories will follow.
Additionally, the category has proven to be a brilliant school for engineers and mechanics looking to expand their careers in F1. The GP2 Asia Series takes place during the European winter, which is F1’s off-season, and it is the fastest and most professional single-seater category in the region.
The popularity of motorsport in Asia and the Middle East is growing and the GP2-Asia Series is well-poised to capitalize on this. It will also give gifted drivers from the region greater opportunity to aim for F1 seats in the future.
The GP2 team was a great boost for Meritus and we set the pace during our the first test sessions and we went on to win our 3rd race.
Winning the Bahrain Grand Prix support race was the highlight of our career in the GP2 Asia series to date and we are very proud of our second place in the 2010 championship.
