Inaugural AsiaCup winner South African Matthew Swanepoel was awarded a GP2 short test drive at Sepang F1 circuit in Malaysia on 15 December.  He also checked out Meritus.GP’s new Formula 4 race car.

Matthew had this to say about the multi championship-winning team:

“The way they look after their drivers is quite special, you really become part of the Meritus family.  It’s great that I can come back here after a few years and they really look after you.”

Matthew had 5 awesome laps in the GP2 car and impressed the team with how he adapted to the car and we would love to have him back for more laps in the future!

MERITUS.GP are  proud of Matthew’s success since he won the AsiaCup championship in 2013.  He has gone on to win podiums in Formula Masters and is on a strong career path, focussed on creating a professional career in GT racing.

On his F4 SEA experience, Matthew said: “The new F4 car is quite fun to drive. For drivers coming up from karting the step is not too big, and I can’t think of a better place to go.”
